Boeren zijn onmisbaar, nemen grote risico’s en werken harder dan bijna iedereen. Maar wat als er iets misgaat? Het Mysterie van de Melkrobots is een documentaire over kwetsbaarheid van de moderne boer. Johan van Rijthoven is een moderne boer die er alles voor over heeft om een gezond boerenbedrijf over te dragen aan zijn kinderen. Omdat zijn koeien om onverklaarbare redenen niet genoeg melk meer geven waardoor zijn bedrijf met de ondergang bedreigd wordt, bindt de melkveehouder de strijd aan met de multinational die hem melkrobots geleverd heeft. Een strijd die leidt tot confrontaties: met zichzelf, met zijn directe omgeving, en met onbeheersbare krachten op zijn erf…
